  • February News in a handy email format

    Hello again,

I’ve just send out one of my enormo-emails, with details of all the bits on pieces I’m up to in February. Man, it’s an excessive number of things. I’m looking forward to March when there is just a reasonable number of things (Geek Pop EP launch, Cambridge Science Festival, FOTSN & Balconettes, James Sherwood’s Piano Bar… oh hang on that’s a lot of things too…)

LOOK the point is that there’s some ace things happening in February and it’s all here in glorious technipurplecolour. It’s not all live shows, there are things online like videos of my comedy girlband The Balconettes!

If you want to get these sorts of things in your inbox before anyone else, you can join my mailing list here.

And now I’m going to get back to learning the hits of Thomas Dolby on the ukulele for my friend’s wedding on Saturday.

  • Baby Be Good To Me

Should have posted something about this last week but it’s been a bit busy… I spent a happy happy day last week with my sister Kat Arney, her fiance Ricky Fabulous of turntable soul-funk band Belleruche, illustrator Tom Humberstone and the awesome Darren Hayman of ex-Hefner and of currently-Darren Hayman and the Secondary Modern.

Darren has been writing and recording a song every day of January, as well as making a video for each song and a video diary to go with every track. Quite aside from recording one of the songs (day 22, number-fans) I’ve been following the whole thing on twitter and tumblr and it’s been a rollercoaster of creativity.

Here’s the video I helped make for the track we played on: Baby Be Good To Me

It’s probably good that I delayed this post until now, because you can buy the entire set of 31 songs from bandcamp (plus a tonne of extra hidden bonus tracks) for a bargainous £15: click here for all that musicky goodness.

  • I am a Monkey Uncaged (supporting cast)

So, this is where I’ll be for most of May: touring with the Uncaged Monkeys

Uncaged MonkeysWith (clockwise from top left) Simon Singh, Robin Ince, Ben Goldacre and Brian Cox.

I’m performing at all 15 shows, yes, even the Hammersmith Apollo one. I’ll be singing songs about science and wearing pretty dresses. It’s going to be nice. Especially because I get to see these four on the left do their awesome thing every night of the week.

And it’s going to be EVERYWHERE, like, well, not EVERYWHERE but in lots of places like Glasgow and Cardiff and Newcastle and the like. So my parents might actually make the effort to come and see it but “only if it’s got that nice young space Professor in it too”
